:: Changes in Praxis II Qualifying Scores Related to GPA (3/7/11)
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has approved a new policy regarding
the qualifying scores for Praxis II content area tests. This policy does not
apply to the Praxis I (PPST) tests. This policy is based on the overall GPA
defined as the GPA earned at the completion of an initial teacher preparation
program. It does not apply to Instructional add-on certificates. It only applies
to candidates who have completed an initial preparation program and have an
overall GPA at the completion of that program.

:: School of Education develops site for new teachers called GRAD
HAT- GRADuate Help and Assistance for Teachers.
Holy Family University faculty has developed a website called GRAD HAT. This
website is designed as an outreach program to serve new graduates and teachers
who have completed their initial teacher certification requirements. During
your first years as a teacher, challenges will arise which often involve planning
for instruction, managing the classroom, motivating students, dealing with
individual differences, assessing student work, and working with parents. Navigating
the path to continued professional development and additional credentials also
presents a challenge. We have assembled information on GRAD HAT as a starting
place for you to find answers and to obtain assistance. This site can be accessed
through the School of Education
website under GRAD HAT - Graduate Help and Assistance
for Teachers.

:: Praxis Testing guidelines revised to extend score validity for In-state
candidates to 10 years
Effective on May 1, 2008, the Pennsylvania
Department of Education has revised the Praxis score validity from five
to ten years for candidates educated within the Commonwealth. This pertains
to candidates for certification and is applicable to all educators who
are currently applying for Pennsylvania Certification. The score must
meet the qualifying score in effect on the date the application was received.
All candidates whose teacher preparation program was completed outside
Pennsylvania must successfully complete the same tests as candidates
prepared in the Commonwealth. All tests must be successfully completed
within five years of the date of application for certification, even
when the interstate agreement is in effect.
