Points-Based Housing System
The Office of Residence Life has worked extensively to come up with a fair
and consistent housing selection process that rewards students for positive
behavior, academic achievement, and campus involvement, while maintaining a
seniority component. The following is an example of how the points-based system
works and the exact formula the Office of Residence Life uses to calculate
your points:
All class years GPA is multiplied by 1000 – The Office of Residence
Life will keep records of class years, which will ensure that no rising junior
would have an opportunity to pick before a rising senior or a rising sophomore
to pick before a rising junior. All points will be verified by the Activities
Office and the Admissions Office.
Points for club and organizations
- 50 points for leadership position (President, VP)
- 35 points for active membership
Points for athletic participation
- 50 points for team captain
- 35 points for participation
Points for Student Ambassador Program
- 35 points for participation
Points for University-sanctioned Community Service
- 15 points for recorded service
100 points deducted for each policy violation
Example #1: The following is an example of point calculation for a
student from the Class of 2009 (current Junior) who had a 3.0 GPA, participated
in varsity volleyball, was a member of the Student Government, and hosted four
prospective students through the Student Ambassador program:
3.0 x 3000 = 9000
base number
+ 35 active member club
+ 35 athletic participant
+ 35 Student Ambassador active participant
9105 total points
Example #2:The following is an example of point calculation for a student
from the Class of 2010 (current sophomore) who had a 2.9 GPA, is the president
for Student Government, a member of the newspaper, and had a level 1 sanction:
2.9 x 2000 = 5800 base number
+ 50 club leader
+ 35 active member of club
- 100 level one sanction
5785 total points
Example #3:The following is an example of point calculation for a student
from the Class of 2011 who had a 3.1 GPA, no campus involvement, and two policy
violations:
3.1 x 1000 = 3100 base number
- 100 violation #1
- 200 violation #2
2800 total points
Important Dates in the Selection Process
On Wednesday, April 2, 2008, an appointment card will be placed in your mailbox.
The card will include your name, points, and the time you are scheduled to
select your room. Do not lose this card, as you will need to bring it to the
open room selection.
Open room selection will begin on Tuesday, April 8 in the Campus Center and

Life for form) to select your room for you. If your name is called for your
appointment and you (or your proxy) are not present, we will go to the next
appointment. If you know who you would like to live with next year, you can
sign in to a room together using the AVERAGE score of your roommate(s).
Please Note: if signing in together BOTH/ALL students must be present or have
a signed proxy form.
If two or more students have the same appointment time and are interested in
the same room, they will select a lottery number to determine who will pick
first.
